threads from specific forum into custom template

i've seen plenty of other posts on how to get threads from a forum displayed onto a non-vb page, but i want to know how to get these to display within my existing custom template. as it is all part of the forum, surely it must be a lot simpler?

is there a simple method with which to simply pull this info without anything overly advanced?
