3.5 port of Welcome Hack 1.2
 
This was always my favorite *look* and code for a welcome panel/nav replacement.. The extra details (such as forum stats and avatar display) are only on forumhome saving extra queries on every page. The subpages all have normal navs. It also saves you from having to have a 'forum statistics' area on the bottom of your forumhome.

The original author has vanished for well over a year unfortunately. Anyone willing to port this one, or one that just *looks* like it?

Hmm, it's basically just template edits - pretty easy to port.
