CVS or Subversion?

Is anyone familiar with both CVS and Subversion for change/version tracking of development work? Since CVS has gone different directions and Subversion hasn't been around very long, I'm not sure which is a better product.

Any advice would be appreciated ... as would other open-source suggestions you might care to make.
