Heggy's Error 404 Banning
*** Heggy's Error 404 Banning *** Description: This is basically the same thing that's been done in a couple other hacks, but does not require any queries to be run and is in it's own nice little vBulletin Product XML file. For those of you who don't know what this does, it causes everyone in a specified group to see nothing but 404 errors on every page. This is great if you want to get rid of someone fast, because they'll think that your site is messed up or offline. Instead of trying to find ways to circumvent a normal ban and "get even", the 404'd user just gives up... Never the wiser ;) This plugin works with both primary and additional usergroups. Installation: Go to AdminCP >> Plugin System >> Manage Products Click Add/Import Product, then the "Browse" button, and import the XML file. Configuration: - Go to AdminCP >> vBulletin Options >> vBulletin Options >> User Banning Options - Scroll down to "Heggy's 404 Banning" and enter the usergroup ID that you want 404 banning to apply to. - Hit "Save". ========================================= This is my first 3.5 plugin, so go easy on me if it seems amatuerish ;) If you have any ideas for improvement or expansion, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Don't forget to click install! |
great thanks!!
btw, for reference, it didn't give a 404 error... more like a bunch of warning fatal error stuff that makes it look like the site is going through some major technical difficulties. :p ;) eitherway...works for me! :D [high]* GrendelKhan{TSU clicks install![/high] |
Can you make it where it will show a page that you can make up yourself instead of a real 404 error page?

and boofo i think you can just change the wording after the @header(" yatta yatta ") maybe even put html in there. |
Works on Internet Explorer just fine but in Firefox it's just a blank page.

kinda cool, isn't it :D |
Yes, though in Firefox I wouldn't call it a 404 ban in its current state.
Though... that's not altogether a bad thing. The problem with 404 bans is the link to your site's main page where in my case at least, the page shows as normal. Still, either way it irritates my victims and goes nicely with my collection of ban methods. :) |
Thanks for the kind words guys!
Yeah, 404 Error doesn't really describe what this does as well as it should... I was up until 5 AM trying to play with this stuff and that's what popped in to my head. I'll try and figure out the page redirect thing tonight, Boofo. I was thinking about that too and thought it'd be cool to have ;) I'll think of a more descriptive name for it too and update it with the 2nd release. Glad you like it :) |
Small update... I won't be around for a few days, (weird working hours) but you guys can feel free to modify this however you want. Boofo's idea sounds like a good one :)
|
I suppose you could do re-directs in the htaccess file to get around it but it would be better to keep it all in the product file I think.
