Limited amount of forums

Seems that amount of forums is limited to approx. 1000. I´m building a huge board which needs about 5000 different forums :alien:

There must be a reason for this limit. What would that be and what kind of risks a board with huge size brings on?

Is there possibilities to remove this limit or do I have to join a number of forums to one -> this would also need some modification so that all forums would use same user db, navbars would work as in one board etc.

Any ideas?

Just out of interest, what sort of board needs 5000 forums?

I suppose a commercial application like a travel agents broken down by country, town, villa and apartement might need that many, but I can't picture it personally...

Ah, maybe it's for porn... ;)

It's probably a question for vb.com IMO.

Good thinking Borgs8472, board would be broken down by coutries.

I already asked help from vb.com but they can not help with this issue.

How can vB have limited amount of forums when it's advertised as allowing for an infinite amount of forums and sub-forums?

dizzy2005 10-14-2005 07:53 AM

welcome to the difference between advertising and reality ;)

we've got the same problem: about 1.000 sub-forums, still growing (we are doing a music magazine and want to build a sub-forum for each artist portayed on our site, that makes about 3.500 sub-forums) and that doesn't seem to be possible with vBulletin.

does anybody know a solution to this or do we really have to look for a different forum-system (which would be a great pity)

Just out of curiosity what limits are you guys coming across?

dizzy2005 10-14-2005 08:19 AM

massive performance (memory) problems. the httpd-processes of the forum-user need 20-30 mb each!
