phpinclude_start in templates other then header/footer

After days of frustration i have finally figured out that phpinclude_start and finish only work in the header/footer. Is there any way for them to work in other templates (ie. postbit_legacy)?

Or will i have to add the php to my showthread.php? If so, where?

i'm not completely stupid so you dont need to write a paper on how to do it, just point me in the right direction
