Any chance of filtering the different vb versions using an additional usergroup?

Hey (again :p )

So I keep the vb 3.5 and vb 2 sections of the forum view collapsed because I don't use those pieces of software, only 3.07.

That works for me mostly.

However it annoys me that because I like to make use of 'new posts' to see what threads are active, that I return 3.5 and 2 hacks etc, and I think they're suitable for my forums, which they're often not.

Anyhow, cut a long story short, can access to each of the version specific usergroups be controled via an additional public usergroup?

"No, new users will be confused when they sign up and can't find the right forums"

Ah, but alternatively could additional usergroups be used to filter OUT the forums I don't want to see?

E.g. usergroup 'Don't want to see 3.5'

Permissions for 3.5, deny all access

Repeat for other sections. :)

I'm not asking for a custom ignore forum hack, just a small add-on I could do myself :)

I believe when we move to 3.5 here on vB.org, alongside the Hack Database there will be new methods of searching for hacks / modifications, and I hope you will be able to filter out between what versions of vB you have, as well as the ones you have installed :)

Yea, sometimes I just want to check the new post to whats whats going on, but the hack threads get in my way and I get like 5 pages to search threw.

Sure, I expect there will be. But it's the active threads that I want to filter combined with the non version specific e.g. PHP discucssion and misc chat I like to see. Not just the hacks.

search.php?do=getnew&exclude=x,y,z
Replace x,y,z with the ForumIDs you dislike

It sounds like you're suggesting I'm a especially difficult person who demands their own search function, that's not the case. I'd like this feature for all users :)

No one is suggesting that, Kirby simply posted a way for you to do this with the current search engine.

We listen to all member feedback, so don't think we aren't considering it even if a staff member doesn't say so in public :).

it's not as if it's a hack though.

You're the experts, you know it can be done in minutes!
