Referer Spam
 

LOL, check out the attachment for yet another case of referer spam. Of course, don't post anything from the attachment, as that would only enable the spammer. Don't know what referer spam is? Read this. Too bad I didn't notice this spammer earlier, could have blocked the requests sooner. Oh well, that bandwidth is sunk. BTW, my logs are private, but that doesn't matter, as referer spammers spam whatever in the hopes of making it into public logs that are picked up by search engines. Now if everyone would just make their logs private...

What's irking me is that there's a whole set of vbulletin owners that are doing this. When I was running the stats hack, only admins could see our stats. But, it was full of bogus links to vbulletin register pages all the time.

If I put a stats hack on 3.5, I believe I am going to start tracking the sites and then make a list of the offenders available in my hideaway forum and a way to block the idiots.

It's bad enough getting spammed from strangers, but when members from this community start doing it, I get more than a little irked.

why not just use rel="nofollow" on their links?

the nofollow thing doesn't apply in my case cause the links aren't public. It's just annoying to have logs full of the stuff.

Not to mention the waste of bandwidth. ;)
