Migrating from PhpBB to vBulletin

Hi guys,

I'm seriously condiering switching over to vBulletin from PhpBB.

Now, I need to keep the original skin from PhpBB and convert it over to vBulletin. From what I understand there is no script that will do this automatically. Similar to Impex but with graphic/template conversion.

Now, how would I do this? What documentation is there?

The reason I'm asking this is, I don't want to buy the license and then realize it's a pain.

I would much appriciate all the technical details & specifics before I do anything.

Thanks!
-Sam

Hi Sam,

Thank you for your interest in vBulletin. There is no way to convert a phpBB skin to a vBulletin Style.

vBulletin however comes with an easy to manage Style Manager, all you need is some basic HTML skills to change to looks of your board to your liking. For a lot of changes (colors, images, etc.) not even HTML skills are needed. Most skins will not be to difficult to duplicate on vBulletin. You can find information about the vBulletin Style (template) Manager in the online documentation found at vbulletin.com.

We have here an active community that will try to help whenever someone needs guidance in modifying vBulletin. If you need it, licensed members can also post Modification (free) or Service (payed) Requests to find someone who is able to help them.

I hope i have answered your questions. If not, feel free to ask.

comming from an ex phpbb user... its soooooooooo worth the money.. and i switched when Impex didnt even import phpbb attachments... styles are pretty easy to come by and again as MarcoH64 has already said if you know Html than you can pretty much recreate your own style..

I'm in the same boat and considering the migration to vB from phpBB. Can I migrate the current data/posts on phpBB to vB without much hassle? Or will I lose all current and past data?

IMPEX is available as part of your licence. This pulls everything datawise over from phpBB and a range of other bulletin board software too.

I am also thinking about moving a forum from PhPbb to Vbulletin I was wondering about stuff like the calendar and private messages will it all transfer or will I have a hell of a time with this. the other question I have is I have about 10 AOL(Blah) users on my forum and they are they biggest reason we have to switch over. can you tell me if AOL users have any problems with the Vbulletin software like they do with the PhPbb software and its session ID's.

Thank You,
Reality73

I suggest you ask about the calendar and PM's in the Import System forum at vbulletin.com.

You should not have any major problems with AOL users, although these can be a PITA sometimes.

You should be able to import everything. Also, vBulletin is worth it so I suggest you buy a license!
