What's up with all the code mods?
 

Aren't there enough hooks to make most of these hacks plugins? If not, have you guys requested they be added? I would hate to see this great new 3.5 version go gold, and only have 5 or so really good plugins for it. Lets make them add the necessary hooks in before they close the version out.

The goal is no code mods, lets make it happen. PLEASE.

Wrong Forum. ;) And I think hack authors try there best to make their hack a plug-in, but sometimes it's just not possible.

It's just not possible to do plugins for everything. If we have to change existing code or change a query, then we can't do it as a plugin.

You don't have to install code mods that you don't want to use. But, I would hope you would not be so rude as to fuss at a coder, who spent their time and effort to release something to share with you, just because it's not a plugin.

Most of you have no idea what a pain in the patoot it is to write up install instructions, user instructions and such. Accept what you are given with good grace, and if it doesn't suit your needs, either change it to make it what you want, or pass it by.

From what I can see of the code modifications that have been released, there are precious few code changes even then -- and as Amy said, mostly changing something small or adding to a query (things not possible with the plugin system).

I think you will be quite pleasantly surprised at how many things have been ported to pure plugins, or with VERY few code changes.

Out of those Hacks currently released as Code Hacks (which are a minority as already pointed out, quite a few could be implemented as Plugins.
And some others (like Plugin Descriptions) are already somewhat redundant as there are similar features in stock Code.

As far as I am concerned, I try to make everything without File Edits - even if it takes 5x as long to create it ;)
The time needed to support No Code-Edits Hacks is drastically lower.

Honestly, the fact that I can install at least half my hacks with plugins makes me happy. If I have to edit one line of code, I don't care. GO PLUGINS! It's like EasyMod that I used on phpBB, except 1000x better! I can manage hacks like programs on my PC: Install, uninstall. Sooooo easy for lazy webmaster! Thank you Jelsoft!
