Send email on IP
 

I have a member on my forum that has a static IP and i posting abuse all over the place. I ban him and he re-registers.

I don't want to ban the IP because that will force him underground and he will get a new IP and keep posting rubbish - making him harder to track.

What I am after is a quick code hack whereby if a post is made from this particular IP, an email is sent to the board administrator informing them of the username and URL of the thread he posted in.

I assume this is just a mail() function inside the submit post page - but i'm not familiar with the code enough to do this.

Failing this - another possible way of doing this would be an option to send an IP address to coventry - where if the post is made from that IP it is mass-ignored.

Can anyone help me?

I would suggest 2 things:
- Put him in Tachy
- Report it to his ISP

Both done to no effect. This guy is a serial nuisance. He has over 100 registered names that he can use...

You could try to threaten him with some legal stuff, you probably couldn't go through with it. But it might do the trick. If that does not work IP ban him and when/if he comes back report him to ISP again and ask them to take some harder action.

Legal action is the next step. We do have the resources to pursue it.

Just to follow up on the ISP point, I've had problems with users like this too. I ban their IP and they then access the site from another connection.

I contacted their ISP (BT) and they do nothing about it. I guess unless you are a forum with influence or some large company they don't take you seriously.

Be nice to get a hack that allows you to press a button and detonate their PC or electracute them, but I doubt one exists. :disappointed:
