vb.org Archive - New Phrasegroups Site Wide?

Using vBadvanced's CMPS & Gallery and I'd like to use a fair number (ok, a dozen or so) of the phrases in my navbar.

The phrases are stored in their own phrasegroups 'adv_portal' and 'adv_gallery' - so far the only way I have managed to make them available on the forum pages is to edit the code in global.php (before the call to init.php) :(

Am I just being daft and not figuring out how to add something in a plugin to grab them?
I tried a simple $phrasegroups = array_merge in cache_templates hook but no luck.
