Help with New Search Function in Forum Tools

i want to add a link in the forum tools that will retrieve only the new posts in that forum and its subforums also i believe this would require editing one template . as of right now i know how to do it in a specific forum like

search.php?do=getnew&forumid=16,138 etc.. however is there a way i can make a template edit in FORUMDISPLAY to do what i want?

i hope this didnt sound like gibberish
