Sharing vb login with main site sans global.php
 

Okay, so quick question... I'm trying to use a single unified account for both vbulletin and the rest of our site. The thing is, I don't want to just require() global.php, I'd much rather code my own solution around it. I've been trying for ages now, and I can't for the life of me get it to work. I'm wondering if there's anyone out there who's done the same thing that would be willing to share some tips.

What I'm trying at the moment is to have the main site plant the username and password cookies for the forum, since our desired behavior is to always have the user's details recognized until they log out. My hope was that by planting those cookies, vb would think the user had just saved his details on the last visit and create a new session for him. That doesn't seem to happen, though, and those cookies, although apparently byte for byte identical to the ones vbulletin sets, aren't even set once I browse to the forum.

Update: I figured out a solution on my own, so nevermind. I just submitted my login form to the forum's login.php.
