I'm having a strange problem with a template on the standard error page
 

This is the weirdest thing. When I go to the standard error page on my site, the left side bar is empty.

From the debug code, I can see that the template was loaded. But, none of the content is there - even the static stuff.

I'm totally stumped. Any thoughts?

p.s. I'm not using the sidebar plugin that I released here. I'm using a code mod that evaluates the template right after the header template is evaluated in global.php

have you tried setting the variable globally?
add it to functions standard_error() or standard_redirect() and see if that works

A better solution would be to add the sidebar code to your header or navbar templates ... 1 less template to call per page

oops, sorry I didn't notice that this was a 3.5 forum -- I don't know if the above would relate since I haven't even installed vb 3.5 :(

try using GENERIC_SHELL template

edit: misread your post, some errors here doesnt show the navbar, "new posts" with no new posts sometimes show it and sometimes it doesnt

It's showing the navbar. Everything is there - even the left column. It's just empty even though the debug processing says it's been evaluated.

I had a problem with the standard error not showing things that I calculated in global.php - I had to add them to the standard error function global statements in functions.php (around line 2147). :)

to avoid that, you could try $GLOBALS[varname].

I just had to go to the standard error function and bring in the variable names that I used in my side bar. Had to do it in the arcade too. Works like a dream now.
