learning mysql
 

I want to start writing my own hacks. I understand the principles, can do a lot but I am still new to the mysql fields notion. Where can I get documentation on the different fields available and an explanation on what to use (such as smalllint, integer, mediumblob etc...)?

Thanks. Now on to my first major hack. I have been using a great program (free) that automatically creates the sql create tables statement for you

If you already know SQL, then a good book on MySQL can help introduce you to MySQL differences.

But if you are not familiar with SQL and relational databases, MySQL books can be frustrating. I'd recommend starting with a good book on SQL first, like the book "SQL Fundamentals". Going from SQL to MySQL then would a lot easier.

thank you tamarian. In the past I have been able to navigate into someone else's tables a fair bit and get the info I needed. This time I've got an ambitious project requiring me to create those tables and I was not too sure about the various types and when to use them.
