Email PM Contents on PM Email Notification?

looking for a way to email users the contents of a PM when they receive a new PM alert via email, much in the same way they see an entire post in their email when they are subscribed to a thread..

possible?

Yes it is possible, but IMHO it does not make sense.
This has been requested on my board several times, and I always declined it.
Why?

A notification should be a notification - and not the content itself.
If you want your users to be able to send emails to each other, enable this feature.

I agree. Maybe the subject line could be in the email contents, but not the contents of the message. After all, why not just email each other instead?

I always said it should be included.

Why have your members visit the site just to read a pm? increase bandwidth? increase server load?

If you think about it, it's more work for them...
eg. 1) open email 2) go to site 3) log in

The reader will always visit the site when and if they want to reply to pm or participate. You don't need to make it an obligation.

This setting could be used as an option for premium members.

I see your point, however, for me, I WANT them to visit the boards. That's my revenue ;)

they will visit the site with or without the pm contents ... in most cases, people will reply to private messages

Does it matter if it makes sense ? There are many hacks here that make no sense to me whatsoever (reading other peoples PM's springs to mind). But people obviously want them. :)

i see your point about the 'use email instead', but i have PMs (:)) enabled, and my members like to use them.

i had someone ask me about this 'feature', because he now gets his emails on his cell phone. he likes subscribing to threads and seeing the contents of replies on his phone, and would like to do the same with PMs. to me, if i can deliver one more feature of my site to someone while they're 'on the road', it's a win.

personally, i wouldn't mind having the feature either - so if someone sends me a PM while i'm at work, i can just read my email rather than going to the site when i may not be able to.

i'd just rather be able to get this done for my users, rather than telling them 'use email instead'.

that said, anyone wanna help me out? ;)
