This modification should work on any 3.0.x forum.

The purpose of the mod is to allow users to make their avatar link to a URL of their choice, instead of linking to their user profile. I made it at the request of a few of my forum members, maybe someone else will want to use it too.

There are only two steps: Create a new user profile field and modify the postbit and/or postbit legacy templates.

There are a couple of minor cosmetic issues I didn't know how to fix:

1. I had to put "http://" in the template edit and specify that users only put www.theirlink.com in the profile field because it seems that href automatically adds the forum URL to the beginning otherwise.

and

2. The new profile field cannot be private or else the conditional test for userinfo[fieldXX] doesn't work for non-admin users. This means it shows up on the users profile page, which is kind of ugly.
