How does vBulletin know to show alt1 instead of alt2 on the showthread?

For example, the way I've got my styles now is that one post is shown in dark red, whilst the next one is shown in medium red, then it's back to dark red and so on.

Now, I'm inserting another few rows in to the postbit template (one for 'user name' 'user title' 'avatar' etc) but I'd like them to alternate.

How is this done?

Hmm.. this is what I would like to happen...

I have a table (the postbit), say bgcolor alt1. The next post after that is bgcolor alt2. In that table, I have a cell and I want it to have bgcolor of alt2 if the main table background is alt1, or the cell bgcolor is alt1 if the main table is alt2...

Get me?
