Smilies getting cut short?

In quotes, and on certain posts when there's enough text, my smilies are getting the bottoms shaved off of them (their poor chins). Any idea why? Happens on IE only, not Mozilla though.

Could be the line-height: is too small ... mozilla will adjust the line-height to fit the images on the line, if the images are "inline" - IE in standards-compatible mode may not do that ...
