Newbie in need of help

How do I load a Template?

Or where do I find the directions?

Tony G 12-10-2003 10:30 PM

Load template? Do you mean load a style?

What version, vB2 or vB3?

Saw the post saying there was no "turtorial" on creating styles, but is there one on loading ones?

Just the basics, enought to kick me off the start line!

because thats what the template mod forums are for, there a mini tut on how to do specific things. there is no real tutorial besides going at it and poking at code untill you get it to do what youd like to do

There is a tutorial on loading styles for vB2

http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/mo...ead.php?t=2005

Thanks that helps.
The style I tryed to upload did not have instructions, just a style file and a lot of gifs.

So from what I can tell, styles contain the colors and pointers to the various GIFs? Right?

SO do most 'good' styles come with templates and Replacements files?
do most put unique graphics in a separate dir to keep th einatll clean?

What is in the Templates?
What is in the Replacements?

Style files contains templates, replacements, and style colors.

Replacements are text you can use in your templates so you dont have to type long code over and over again. It also allows the template colors to be changed easily, along with other things like the image paths.

Templates are files stored in the database that contain all the html used in your vBulletin.

In the style options you can find the area to changes your board colors/image paths/other stuff about the style.

The gifs in the .zip file are the images used in the style.

. . .

The style file is just the file with the pointers? right?

Or when you upload and/or download a style does it sendd the whole package?

Zachery 12-11-2003 02:34 PM

a style file is a "whole style" when you upload it to your vB it makes a whole style for you

if you want pointers on howto design your forums im still going to inisit on you looking though the temlpate mods

So when I upload a "style" it is uploading a siongle file with all the subfiles involved as a package?

I have to finish this resinstall to play some.

seesm when I looked the style file was small and the .gifs were all separate.

Also seems that the information in ythe "Templates" and "Replacments" must be stored other places?

Maybe I am confusing th style file from a "Style" file (or set of files) that I would get as a "skin" for Vb??

I will look through the mods more, but I am not getting much from them, as they mostly dealing with the internals of these files, and not the 'macro' level where I still seem to have a lack of understanding.

Thanks again, but if you know of a particular thread or decent set of search terms to use top find one, it would be very helpfull.

Right now I am feeling real dumb!
