[moved from release forums] Archive

This involves some code hacking, but considering the archive is totally file based, without templates, i cant see why it wont be allowed. Feel free to remove this, though.

While hardly possible to show you an example, you will notice the bbtitle, forum and thread names now appear as the title of the archive at http://www.ozfortress.com/archive/index.php/t-7473

Nice
Thanks.

since everything here is done by template mods, i do belive you should remove this. however i maybe wrong.

Totally agreed. However, by request of Joe to add it i have, and considering you cant modify the archive at all via templates, i cant see why it wont be allowed (ie, to modify the archive look/feel you must modify php files.)

This modification would most probably be a standard feature should templates be used for the archive.

Doh! I guess it was removed?

I really dont know why this is NOT a standard feature in the archive. It makes no sense to me.

Merk, can you email me the change? webmaster@bikeforums.net :)

Very professional moderation happening. A justification as to why hacking the archive (beacause it is not template based, and still needing this kind of work) files isnt allowed instead of just "no hacking", and a reply explaining the reason (maybe a link to the rule of no hacking too).

No wonder i hate forums like this.

Zachery 10-19-2003 02:52 AM

as i understand it here, no file editing is allowed, unless of course its not a standard vB file.

File hacking is not allowed in these forums because we deal with template modifications only. Even tho the html is hard coded into the archive you may not post modifications to it here because they may break the php code if it is not applied to the file correctly.

I dont know why this feture is not default myself, or why the archive has no templates. Sounds like a good request to file before the beta stage is over :). If you wish to release this modification you may do so at vBulletin.org when they allow vB 3 file hacking (when RC is released).

That is all that was needed from "filbert1". How hard is it to write a paragraph explaining why you did something. If any of my moderators did a similar thing, I'd fire them.

Thankyou for at least making your position clear, Brad.loo.

I only released this hack for Joe, i have no plans on sharing anything with the community that gives nothing back, thankyou, though.

Zachery 10-19-2003 04:30 AM

what do you mean community that gives nothing back?

you should have read the rules before you posted your modifcation. and this wouldnt have even come up :)
