Vbulletin Skin Services Discussion

So what is the best approach for vb-skinning services? The regualar seems to be a pay per skin approach with pre-made skins. However ant-premade work discussions have been made so is the whole pre-made skin sale worth it? How much does it actually bring in nowadays and do clients want this anymore? Would not more of a web graphic designer appraoch be better where only custom work is displayed in a freelance manner? It appears the business approach is much favoured in todays line of services. What about the subcription idea when you pay per month, do clients or users not want that, would that not be a better approach to bring in higher paying custom work requiring clients? What about adding in web design? Wouldn't that make a better portfolio and bring in more money through entire site and forum skinning and making? Plus would this not seem more proffessional?

So what're your views on this, I want both from a client's point of view and a seller's.

=)

Selling skins won't make you a living but it's fine to just sell premade skins at $10 - $40, there's nothing wrong with it, people will buy them :).

pre-made skin sellers also offer custom work for a fee. i can see where you are coming from though - yes, imo, it is better for them if they displayed custom work in their portfolios.

thing is, many people out there would rather spend a small amount on skins, and not worry too much about looking like a hundred other sites. i guess it's akin to the web template business in that way.

you can always go to someone who doesn't specialise in vb skinning, but rather a normal design firm, as it's not particulary difficult to skin a vb board.

But that's what I'm saying, if you made custom skins as well but leaned more towards them (sort of entered into a web design career but more VB inclusive) wouldn't this make it possible to have a career in this? What about Corey Wojen? Isn't he, well was he able to make a good living out of his VB services?

Well, his services are geared towards all design work, he just was specially known for vB Design work.
