47+ Guests

The weirdest thing happened to me yesterday, i had about 5 members online, and over 40 guests online. I was quite happy at first.. but then, through out the day, the guest count would go up a bit, and decrease a bit, but it would always stay in this range: 39-50. I get up this morning, and the same thing.

I know its probably some trick or something, because all of the IP's of the guests are incredibly similar, the only difference is the last 2 numbers of the IP. And i check what they are doing, and they're doing things only members can do. O.o What can I do? Its quite annoying now, since i know they're like duped guests.

Probbly google-bot or the like indexing your site.

They are probably bots. IPs are probably like 'crawl.google34' or 'bot.inktomi23'

There is a mod released here by Anthony to stop bots (Also, a few hacks have been released aswell)

I like them, they let you site get more hits. :)

Why would you want to stop bots from indexing your site?

ok, i installed like 3 hacks, filburt's googlebot hack, anthony's hack, and another one that finds the number of bots there are, and it says "0". Any other suggestions? lol

What is the hostname from the similar guests?

joeboo 07-05-2003 07:05 PM

how do i figure out the hostname of a guest IP?

Tony G 07-06-2003 12:46 AM

Who's Online should display the hostname, sometimes it does IP..

You have to change the option in the acp, to resolve ips.
