how can i make it so that new users registering for my forum need to enter (at least some text, it dosnt need to actually check to see if its a valid user) in the referer box?

You can creat a new custom profile field from the admin panel, label it somethign like "Who referred you to us?" And make it a required field during registration.

Wow, I have the same issue. I would like to have the actual REGISTRATION referrer box a required field @ registration. So, to include it during the field checks that occur once you hit the COMPLETE REGISTRATION button. I have played around with this for a while and it seems that the field is ignored, even if I include the name of the field in the checks in register.php! I would like to have user's referred by someone aready in the community. Makes for a tighter board, knowing at least the users come in knowing at least one person.

Just creating a field and making it REQUIRED doesn't check to see if the user actually exists. Thanks.
