Subscribe to View Admin Posts

This is a vB 3.0.7 hack, where upon installing this hack, your users must subscribe to view a specified administrator's posts in the forums you specify. If a non-subscribed user views a post by said administrator, the user will see a "subscribe to view message" instead of the post. The way this works is that, if a user subscribes according to the vB subscription you set, the user will see said administrator's posts; otherwise the user sees the "subscribe to view" message. Make sure to read the following "things you need to know beforehand" section!

* add 1 file, edit 6 files, edit 2 phrases, add 1 phrase, set 2 options, edit 4 templates

Difficulty:

* depends on how good you are with details or how well the instructions are written

Caveats:

* read the "things you need to know beforehand" section
* realize some combos may not be included in this hack

Things you need to know beforehand:

• how to use the vB subscriptions feature and set members into a primary usergroup
  • see the vB manual for help on how to do this if you need instructions
• forumids of the forums where a subscription is needed to read admin posts
  • herein the forumids are set to 2,3,4,5 so change them to your forumids (5 spots to change)
• primary usergroupid of members who subscribed and are allowed to read admin posts
  • herein this usergroupid is set to 9 so change it to the appropriate value (5 spots to change)
• admin username (case sensitive)
  • herein the admin username is set to ME_ADMIN so change it to your admin username (4 spots to change)
• admin usergroupid
  • herein the admin usergroupid is assumed to be 6 so change it if needed (6 spots to change)
• admin userid
  • herein the admin userid is assumed to be 1 so change it if needed (4 spots to change)
• functionality lost by installing this hack:
  • ability to reply with quote by clicking quote button is removed
    • quote button icon is also removed from all threads
  • ability to view thread in Threaded / Hybrid modes is removed
    • only the linear mode is allowed for viewing thread
  • ability to search for threads / posts by admin is removed
    • cannot search by admin userid or admin username or a subset of admin username
• functionality not removed by installing this hack
  • ability to mouseover a thread link and see partial text of a post
• the logged in admin will see the forums as if this hack was not installed
