Show/Hide Text within a Post

Peace,

I have a slight copy/paste problem with my members, where they are posting extremely long quotes/articles, when they could just provide a link. I realize I could just prohibit it altogether, but to keep the free flow of information, I was hoping that there is a 'script' of some kind, or a custom code such as [article]article text...[/article]. The desired effect, is that the text between the 'article' tags would be hidden/compressed, leaving only a short 'Show' link, which would expand and display the whole article/text only after the 'show/display' link was pressed.

Make sense?

I have tried searching around, but came up with nothing. It is similar to the 'spoiler' hacks which are going around, but I was hoping that the text would be 'compressed' and hidden, so that there isn't any long blank spaces which needs excess scrolling.

By the way, I am using vBulletin 3.0.7

I have an example of what I am looking for;

http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.p...r=897&topic=41

--------------------------------
This is a Long Post
<snip>
[+/-] show/hide this post
--------------------------------

Something like that, which could be generated by enclosing text within custom tags like [article]long article text[/article], would be perfect.

Thanks in advance for any help on the matter.

I think this is what you are looking for...

Thanks for your post.

I checked that thread, and unfortunately it is not really what I am looking for, although it is remotely similar. If you check the link that I posted in my original post, the show/hide feature actually expands the element and page, bringing up the text. The difference between that and the common spoiler mods, is that in the spoiler, the text (space) covers the page to however long the text is. In my own case, I have people posting copious amounts of texts and quotes which requires serious finger work, in scrolling down past it all. For that reason, I was hoping to get an expanding/collapsing type effect, where the users don't have to scroll down past long articles, unless they choose to do so, by displaying the text.

I hope I am a little bit more clear. Thanks again anyway.

Actually I think that is EXACTLY what you are looking for.

edit: users must have javascript enabled for it to work.
