what's the best blog / journal system for vb ?

there is none... AN-Net journal can be a good alternative, but it's not for the global board, just journals for users... and the code is not complete, features are hard to understand by the users, and there is lack of complete bLog look...

An its good... it missing some stuff but imagine if you didnt do it at all what we would be missing.

I use AN-Net's VBjournal and my members have no problem understanding it now. There was a slight issue with members understanding the front page of the journal system at first, but they quickly got used to it. My members love the feature and I have really only gotten a handfull of complaints from those that want it to be more blog like as well as use WYSIWYG editor. I say the VBJournal hack is worth an install and since the coder announced a Version 2, we can bet it is going to be even better.
