my predicament (2 forums kinda)

The plan :-

i plan to have one vb install but set them out as if there are 2 one for the artists on my music site and one for the listeners. on the index im not going to have a problem having more than one category show up but then when it comes to the second community (artist or listener) i cant think for the life of me how to call more than one category... is it even possible ? or will i have to have all the forums within the same catergory and make it invisible on the forum index and call it via its url

so bassically im asking could i call more than 1 catergory with a Url?

thanks

I don't fully understand what you are trying, but i think what you want can be done with (Secondary) Usergroup permissions.

bassically i need to have to forum homepages with multiple forum cats. so i know you can show more than one forum cat on the forum index what im asking is it possible to call more than one forum cat via a url

for example i wanted to have a page just showing
vb3 code mods https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=32 and
vb2 code mods https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=3

would i be able to call something like https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=32&f=3

???

#cheers

You can not put multiple forumid's into the url for forumdisplay.php.

If you however just use the forumid of teh category you want to show, it would show the category with all it's sub-forums.

Are you making this for registered members or for guests?

Benj 05-18-2005 08:15 AM

registered members..... so im gonna have to put all my forums in one category......

Marco van Herwaarden 05-18-2005 08:51 AM

If you are talking about Register Members, then it can be done much easier.
- Setup 2 new Usergroups: Artist & Listener
- Give These 2 groups permissions to see the Categories/Forums you want them to see.
- Don't give permissions to the regular Registered Members usergroup to these Forums.

Now assign 1 (or 2) Membergroups to the user depending on teh category of users he/she is.

i can see what your saying but i would like the artists to have access to the listeners forums and the listeners to have access to the artists. no worries ill just have to put all the forums in one catagory

Marco van Herwaarden 05-18-2005 10:12 AM

Sorry but i think we really are misunderstanding each other. As i understand your question, i don't see any reason to put all under 1 category.

You can have as many Category/Forums as you want. For each Usergroup you can control on any Category/Forum what the permissions should be.

Benj 05-18-2005 10:23 AM

sorry ill try and explain..... its as if im going to have 2 communities one entitled artist and one for listeners. every forum member can view both of these. but with having 2 communities effectivly i want 2 forum homepages one for the artist community and one for the listeners community.. meaning i can use vbs index.php as one community homepage with as many catagorys as i want. the other i think will have be called via a url like my 1st community homepage i would like my second community homepage to have more than one forum catagory... but im starting to think this isnt possible is it
