Galaga Hack v1 Add-on - Galaga Shields and shield notation for post count
 

This is an add-on based on Zero Tolerance's Galaga Hack v.1.

For this add-on, I made the modifications to meet TCattitude's suggestion in ZT's hack thread:

...instead of the stars, use the real galaga images?

...like roman numbers, sum with them.

Examples:
If a user have 1 post, he got 1.gif
If a user have 5 post, he got 5.gif
If a user have 7 post, he got 5.gif and two 1.gif
If a user have 150 post, he got 100.gif and 50.gif
If a user have 1277 post, he got 1000.gif, 200.gif, 50.gif, two 10.gif, 5.gif and two 1.gif
etc.

So what does it do?

Depending on the user's post count, Galaga shields appear in the postbit under there username and title.

There are different shields denominations for: 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000, 5000, 10000, and 25000 posts.

For example, if the user has 178 posts, it will have 4 shields displayed (but three different types of shields) and the distribution will be:

1 100 shield
1 50 shield
2 10 shields

Max post count for shields allowed is 49999.

This install instructions are very detailed, and almost every line in the code is commented so changes can be made to it easier.

UPDATE 05/15/2005:

As requested by TCattitude, I made modifications to the code and the images folder to include more shields (15 total), and to start posting shields starting from post 1 (kinda like the real Galaga system). The file is Galaga v1 Add-on - more shields.zip

Um, shouldn't there be some code attached to this thread ?

Not being funny here, but the install file is practically identical to ZT's, right down to the copyright (?) message - apart from replacing his name with yours, changing the post values in the code, and different images. I don't think he is going to be too happy about this, at the very least you should fully credit him in your instructions.

Again, this is my first submission, and it is not 100% original.

Im going to give 100% credit to ZT then. Although the code changes a bit. It now concatenates different shields. If you read the discussion under ZT's hack, TCattitude posts a suggestion there. I modified the code a little bit to meet his request.

However, if you think I should name the hack differently let me know. I don't want to start in the community with the wrong foot, u know.

when you want to make a "modification" on a hack, you simply have to provide your modification inside the originate thread. releasing a different version breaking the credits and copyrights is never good, so i would suggest you drop this hack release and post your modification inside Zero's thread... respect and credits will be given!

I would do as advised. However, I dont have Admin privileges to drop my release, and 2 people have already installed it so far.

The files included in this release include Zero Tolerance as the creator. My name is not present in any of them, so credit is given in full to ZT.

Admins: If you guys feel that this release needs to be dropped, then do so. I will post all the info in ZT's thread. I personally think this is something a lot of people have been wanting for this hack, so it should stay.

And I want to state again: I didnt steal any code, or even break credits and copyrights in this release. I just made some modifications to ZT's code. Credits and copyrights are still the same.

The best way to handle this is to rewrite the instructions, and only give instructions "on top of" ZT's hacks.

Then you can release that as an addon.

Guys, I didnt have any bad intentions here. All I wanted to have was a new addon to ZT's hack so that it works in my forum the way I wanted. Im not stealing rights or anything.

Again, I'm new here, and I didnt know how stuff works here. It is sad that I'm very excited in joining the community, and all I hear is bad things. Not a pretty way of welcoming someone.

I PMed ZT about this immediatelly after I started getting feedback, so I told him myself about this.

MarcoH64, I will rewrite this tonight. Any idea on where I should post it?
