Displaying thumbnails differently?

I am trying to find a way to setup the user garages so the thumbnails appear like this, when the thumbnails are clicked they appear in a set box, and also offer a feature to let you supersize the thumbnail (show in a new window)

Can someone help me get started on doing this?
