New and need help

I just switched from phpbb after using it for 3 days and crashing the site once...I downloaded Vbulletin today...I love it so far...but have a few questions...

I have no idea how to install hacks, extras, smilies, etc...I notice on this site in some of the hacks ther is an install button...Well, I clicked on that install button on one of the hacks...but then what happened? I have no idea...does it install for me? if so, where is it?

Then there is a download button..what happens when I click on that one? I assume I FTP the hack to my site...but how do I do that...the reason I crashed my site beore, was because I was trying to install a skin...and well, it crashed it...I have NO IDEA what I am doing...so any HELP would be MUCH appreciated...Thank you very much!

Clicking the install button mearly keeps track of how many people are using said hack.

1: You must download the zip file or text for each hack and follow the instructions included in each mod.
2: Back up your site and your database before hacking.
3: If said mod is a major addition, you will need to upload numerous files via ftp to your server to specific locations on your server.
4: You will need to run the "installation script"
5: You will need to make the required file edits on your server.

I wish it was as easy as clicking the "install button" some hacks are quite tedious to install.

BTW - I have three boys as well.

Thank you for your reply! Oh joy...aren't BOYS so much fun :cross-eyed: They are a handful, but I wouldn't trade them for the world! :nervous:

OK, now I must tell you that I am on a KINDERGARTEN level as far as this stuff goes...as far as running the installation script...how do I do that?

I have FTP coffee cup...so do I just open up the file on my computer, and drag it to the forums location...If you dont mind...errrrr, could you give me step by step instructions...or point me in the right direction for doing it...I am really DUMB when it comes to this! :ermm:

Thanks!

Most hacks will come with instructions on how to install, this would be different for each hack.
