Anyone use usernotes?

Was wondering if anyone uses these? I can't think of any reason why I would use them, or what purpose they would be for myself. I aint dissing them, as I imagine they are great for some people and for some forums.

But just wondering what people use them for, and what sort of set up do you use on them, i.e. do you keep it hidden for yer own eyes, or whatever?

Discuss :):)

Nope, I haven't enabled them because I don't see any real advantage in using them. Similarly with the reputation system, I've disabled that too.

I'd much rather Jelsoft went with a simple "user ratings" system (like UBB.classic) than what we have now.

I do use the reputation system, and used to have it as text, but got it edited now, so its very hard to get 4 stars, and even harder to get 5 stars.

most of the users already there have 3 stars, from helping people out etc. but newbies mostly have 1 or 2. Infact we only have 1 guy out of 3600 odd members with 4 stars

They're used most often to keep track of when users do bad things such as spam, flame or troll :) I think they were designed with that in mind really.

What i really miss with the usernotes is a warning icon in the postbit if a member has some usernotes.

Dean C 04-27-2005 06:55 PM

That's a great idea Marco, and should be a standard feature to highlight if a user has previously made any problematic posts :)

Marco van Herwaarden 04-27-2005 07:06 PM

Yes i have been wondering why this is not standard for a long time now.

It is not much use to put a warning about a user there, if nobody will ever notice it.

never actually thought about that

Well, as there are different uses for usernotes, it might not make sense on all implementations.

Paul M 04-28-2005 04:37 AM

We never use them. If we need to discuss a user we have a thread for them in our admin area.
