Had folk Trying to hack me

I am currently running version 3.0.3 and I run CMPS, and as I have added over 500 pages to it, along with a load of new templates I am reluctant to upgrade, however I was told that only a few of the files need to be modified, could anyone help me out and tell me which ones it would be, and what to change, as I really cant afford to loose all the cmps pages I put on, and while my server is down the now (as people seem to think my site has the new songs that have leaked from the new oasis album, so its getting pounded and had to go offline)

Any help would be great though

Watson

Watson, if you mean that you added 500+ CMPS pages then upgrading to vB 3.0.7 wouldn't affect those pages. For going from 3.0.3 to 3.0.7 with CMPS you just need to re-apply the file changes and then in the CMPS installer install the templates (don't worry, it wont affect any that you've modified).

do I need to install cmps again then? I know I will need to install me other hacks. And it defo dont effect the cmps pages?

Cheers for the help mate

There are about 4-5 file edits needed for CMPS. Assuming that you don't use a program like Araxis merge to do your upgrade then your upgrade steps would (a) upgrade to 3.0.7, (b) re-install any hacks including the CMPS file changes, (c) re-install any master templates [in the case of CMPS it'd be just running the installer and choosing the template only option].

The settings for your custom pages are stored in the tables that were created when you originally installed the CMPS. As long as you don't wipe out your tables or choose "Uninstall" from the CMPS installer then those tables will remain out there even if you completely wipe out the file modifications you did and install a fresh copy of 3.0.7 -- you just need to redo the file changes so that it can see those tables again.

Now your other hacks on the other hand..... you'll have to make sure that they even work with 3.0.7 first. ;)

I more or less went from vb3.0.3 to vb3.0.7 doing the same thing and didnt have any problems whatsoever.

Here is a list of the files that were updated between vb 3.0.3 and 3.0.7. If you edited any of these just re-add your changes using araxis merge, beyond compare, winmerge (this is free from sf.net) or other comparison tool.

Will need to check that out 1st also I spose, cause I have got quite a few hacks :), cheers for that reeve, but last time I used a compare program I hit problems, heh, so I think I will leave that for now, and just do it the good old fashioned way. Should only take a few hours anyway :)
