Prefered eMail system

HowdA all. It seems to be the time to have 'prefered' polls.

Currently, I use HiveMail for my site but I have had very serious problems with it over the year and a bit that I have used it. Currently, I suspect it is periodically casuing my server (dedicated) to clam up until it gets a physical reboot. This is only a sporadic problem but one that is a pain regardless.

I really want a decent mail system for my site. I have very few users who actually utilise HM so I guess I could do away with the vb integration aspect. Here is really what I want in a mail system in order of importance:

Stability
Speed
Easy administration
Good support
Affordability
Prefer non mysql integration (I think thats half the speed problem)
Prefer vbintegration (free mailboxes by usergroup)

What do you guys use and what would you suggest? If it ties into vB - it is going to have to either look pretty with some great functionality or at least be skinnable.

My license expired for hivemail last week and I won't be renewing it. The support is terrible, pro-active discussions on the forums are removed and development has not occured in months. Last releases was over half a year ago...

i found socketmail.com searching for a webmail alternative to hive. took me awhile but socketmail looks nice young program but full of features. if your looking for a more high end email server you could always go with atmail.com (its a rival to exchange) so your looking at appx 5,000. but socketmail is $99 for the lite ver.

Has anyone used Filburts mail system? I always want to get it, but I'd like more users opinions on it before doing so.

scoketmail was something I looked into about 6 months ago looking for a better version of hivemail. Sad thing was - they never got back to me with my sales queries and I hear they suffer from some of the same HM grumblings.
On top of that - I think its a mysql storage system. I really honestly do not feel the mysql is the best place to store mail.

At the risk of sounding like advertising, it's the vBulletin Mail System.

The most common reason that I hear from new vBMS customers for their switch from HiveMail to vBMS was the low level of support activity from HiveMail. Non-switcher's most common reason is that they preferred a purely vB-integrated system. HiveMail is standalone but has hooks to interface with vB.

Also anyone viewing hivemail please check this thread:

You may decide to store e-mails for user mailboxes either in MySQL database or in filesystem (i.e. each e-mail messages will be stored in a special folder. This is useful when your MySQL database are not configured to receive large chunk of data (like 2MB) and you can't change the MySQL configuration as you are on a shared hosting server, therefore you may want to opt to storing mail messages in filesystem rather than MySQL database (default).

There's always EmuMail~

In the past I also recomended hivemail but in recent times its gone downhill. I do not require support most of the time but as far as bug fixes go they are falling behind.

I have a few more months left with hivemail, if it improves in that time I may renew, but at the moment I am searching for new script to handle email aswell.
