troubleshooting newreply problem

Lately, once in a while, when someone replies to a thread, his name is appearing on the vbavanced homepage as the thread starter, and I must rebuild thread info. I have a feeling that this is due to the fact that those guys have smilies or html (colored usernames etc...) in their names.

Could that be the reason? Has anyone else exprerienced this?
