grab posts for display elsewhere

I am integrating my news seciton with my vbulletin to handle comments. I have threads being created with news stories no problem, now what I would like to do is grab the last 5 posts from that thread. I know I can just grab them from the post table, but I was wondering if there is a function I can use to display them that will make them look like a vbulletin thread - and no i dont want to use an iframe.
