Direct Linking to Thumbnails... Gibberish

Currently, directly linking to thumbnails produces gibberish. I guess the correct header information isn't there. Here's an example with my mod_rewrite:
http://www.greenhybrid.com/learn/thu...id_05_side.jpg

Any way this can be fixed?
