Where can I learn?
Hi I just recently purchased vB and I installed it.
I previously had phpbb forums and basically found a "style" that I liked and then customized the rest of the images and colors of the board how I liked it... (quite easy) (I'm not a coder by any means) I dont even know where to begin on how to modify my forums or change the style/layout... If someone can give me some pointers of the files i need to work with to even change the headers... colors of the forums... etc.. that would be greatly appreciated.. I went into admincp and looked at the headers and it has all sorts of words with $$$$'s before them.. I feel as if I had someone point me in the right direction I could teach myself and make a nice forum.. Thanks in advanced! Brock Gratton Oh and do I edit all the codes and html in admincp? or do i create designs in dreamweaver? |
You could start at http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/mods/index.php or in your vBulletin Documentation.
If you have specific questions, you can ask here. |
Congrats on your step from PHPBB to vB!
Modifying the header is a whole lot easyer than in PHPBB, I'll tell you that. If you want to modify a style, you do so by editing templates. (Admincp -> Style Manager -> Styles & Templates). Now, once you get to a template (header, for example), you will note that it is mostly powered by variables (the words with $ infornt of it), and css atributes (example: <td class="navbar", where the class indicates it's CSS). If you would want to customize your skin, you can do so entirely in your Style Manager. You can edit the CSS to change the color layout, the Stylevars to change the image directories and the header image, and so on... I believe there are quite a few guides at vbulletin.com, so I think your best shot is to search there. Hope this helps :) EDIT: Damn you Marco! Sneaky! |
how do i edit the stylevars? What is a stylevar and where can i find it?
|
All of my used expresions can be found in: Admin CP -> Style Manager -> Styles & Templates.
There, next to each style's name, you will find a dropdown. In that dropdown, you can find those options. vbulletin.com has some good documentation about this, its worth looking at. |
I think you just solved my problem! i didnt see that drop down box!!!
You're the man deaths |
