Getting feed from news website on your forums

hi folks,
I am not sure of this is the right forum to ask this... but here is what i wanted to find out more abt.

I would like to get latest news articles from news websites as news feeds on my forums. I would like to pull news feeds from selected sites (reputable news websites) that contain specific words.

My question is

1. Is it possible to do this?
2. How will the news feeds/news articles show up on my forums?
3. Is there a mod that picks up feeds or fetches the feeds and dsiplays is accordingly?
4. Would I have to pay to websites for taking the news feed and displaying them on my forum?
5. Is there any drawback of whi whole process... like on forum s/w, members, database, etc, etc.
6. What are you personal opinion of such a feature?
7. is there any FAQ etc i can read to get more info?

I am very new to this newsfeed thingy.. and any help from members here will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Viks

I wrote both for my sites. I have a different news topic posted as a thread per day that rotates weekly.

I also have a news page that folks can choose from topics to get on demand.

The feeds are published for your use, you are expected to keep the publisher information intact when displaying the items is all that is usually required.

There are hacks around to do both. Avoid hacks that brew their own RSS reader and opt for one that uses an RFC complient and caching RSS reader like carp.

Follow either of the links in my sig, both forums use the news feeds in both ways I've cited.

Hi noopid. thank for this.
I checked it out and did find it good.

However I am looking for a news feed that will search certain news websites for 2, 3 or 4 keywords. IF it find it then

pick that news articles and post it in a forum as one single thread.

is that possible???

I WILL appreciate any response on this from any members, mderators, admins here.

thanks

That's exactly what yahoo! news allows. Those are custom news requests to them in most of the links. Seach for news on any topic ya want on demand. It's awsome IMO.

So you wrote the mod yourself???

I hav been looking into CaRP http://www.geckotribe.com/rss/carp/ but not sure if it will work with vB.

That's my RSS app of choice, I purchased it. :)

It's what my scripts are based on. I won't be releasing them, soemone else did it and I don't care to deal with the politics of releasing one of the same idea, even if mine is less code and works. :D

Sorry.

Okay, why does THIS feed work fine using the v1.26 hack:
http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/topstories

But this one does NOT?
http://news.search.yahoo.com/news/rs...F-8&fl=0&x=wrt
