Autosubscribe to Forum Digest Mail on registration

VB enables users to subscribe to a forum in order to receive a daily digest of messages. I would like to be able to automatically subscribe users to select forums at the time of registration. User could then unsubscribe later if they wanted to.

A "phase 2" enhancement might add fields to the registration form which tell the user "You will automatically receive a daily email containing the contents of the following forums. Deselect the check box if you do not wish to receive these emails". Another phase 2 enhancement would allow the admin to subscribe a user to the daily digest mail.

If it helps any, here is some info I rcvd from vbulletin support

You would need to run a query like this for every forumid (Y):
Code:

INSERT INTO subscribeforum
(userid, forumid, emailupdate)
VALUES ('X', 'Y', 'Z')
Where X is the userid of the user, Y is the forumid of the forum, and Z is the number 0 (no email updates), 2 (daily updates), or 3 (weekly updates).

This should work. You will want to backup first.

That would require custom code. For help with this I recommend you post on www.vbulletin.org.

amphicar770, thanks for posting!

I have a similar need. The query above is great - I can do that - but more useful would be something like Forum Manager and Usergroup Manager in AdminCP. I mentioned this on vB.com but got only sort of a "why would anybody want to do that?"

FWIW, here's the "Why:" I'm transitioning to vB a Yahoo community with many different loops relating to local, regional, and national affiliations within the organization. Everybody is used to daily/weekly digests so adding this at registration will be a convienience for the users. Also, some of the daily or weekly information is important, especially stuff for folks in leadership roles, so I need to be able to guarantee that it reaches its audience even if they don't use the board.

Not sure how to get something in line to review for development consideration, but maybe other boards could benefit from this, too.

I agree,

At this point I am willing to do anything to enable this feature on my vbulletin.
