How can I tell which Hacks are resource-hogs?

Hi,
We've just had our provider pull the plug on our forum, because it's using too much CPU. They sent three warnings TO THE WRONG ADDRESS!!! then pulled it. We got it back, but they want us to do something pronto, and all they can suggest is "disable some plugins". They don't give us 'top' or even 'ps' so how we're supposed to tell what to pull I don't know. :(

I've done a quick-and-dirty disable on the arcade and photo-gallery, as they seem most likely to be gluttons, but I'd really like some hard info!

Thanks for any help,

Jim Deakin

pull everything that is a hack, then add one by one and monitor the CPU and see what causes it to sky rocket

or

get a different host

Trouble is we haven't got anything to monitor at that level!
Different host is looking better all the time. Except the implementor of the forum only moved to this host late last year, then died in December. We're running hard just to learn our way around it and keep it going at the moment. A complete move is pretty off-putting!

then keep adding single hacks, waiting for emails saying they will take down your forum if you don't stop the load, and then you know you have your culprit hack

:/

How many users do you have online at any given time? What kind of plan are you on and who is your provider? Chances are - your forum itself may be to big for their shared services plan.

You may want to tell them that you would like to reduce the usage but you need top info and tell them that without it, you may need to consider another host.

Also try enabling the admin debug so you can see how many queries your getting per page and reponse time.

Thanks,
the debug option might give us some usable info...

The current version of v3arcade is a known resource hog..

I'd advise limiting it's use, or switching to ibProArcade if your host is complaining.

Where is the debug mode found?
