Is it possible to view part of a post from the forum index?

Example, I have a Forum called Trucks, and under trucks I have GM, Chrysler Ford etc...

Now a member posts something under GM. When you look at the GM forum index, I can see his post, and their username under their post.

Is there a way to change the view, so it will display part of the users thread, instead of his username?

This is probably a style change or something?
