Creating a test server
Can anyone offer some help and advice? I want to be able to run my site on my pc so I can test hacks and coding..
Thanks |
Start off by installing Apache, PHP, and MySQL. I use Xammp and it's really a nice program. Google it and you'll find it.

is it me or does running it on your comp make it slow as hell - as lately it takes ages to do anything
im using the phptraid version |
I have a separate test server, but even with WAMP (Windows, Apache, MySQL, PHP) installed, it runs fine. I notice no difference when switching apache/php/mysql services on or off. Check network activity to see if anything unusual is going on.

OK, I went with apachetriad...
I have it running but I am having a hard time figuring it out.. what is the default username for phpmyadmin ??? How do I go about installing vbscript and my database into here?? |

Also if you doing databases on your computer phpmyadmin is crap - use another program called Mysqlfront - top app for making and importing databases.Just set it up to load into local host etc and it works fine ive just unistalled phptriad and installed that xampp and gotta say is a lot better |
I installed mysqlfront and I am trying to set it up..
Do I use http://localhost/phpmyadmin/index.php or http://localhost/ as local host?? What do I set the port at?? Thanks |
I installed Apache 2, MySQL 4.1, and PHP 5 on my system, and it's no slower.
It's a bad idea to use a prebundled setup, IMO. Not only do you have no control over everything (nor know how everything works together), but they frequently include outdated versions of all three pieces of software. |
Sorry for these questions but this is new to me.
Where do I put files in this server? |
