[Answered] Possible to have two instances of vbArticles? Articles/Reviews

Wondering if it was possible to have two instances of vbArticles. I have a PC forum and I want to do Articles and Reviews.

Has been done by some here.
Just be warned, there is quite a bit of changes to be made, both in the script and in the install files.

Should not pose much of a problem if you are familiar with PHP.

I'm currently running two instances of this hack. I had a little trouble getting it to work correctly, but thanks to cinq all is well.

I have noticed one small problem. During the install of my second script, database errors came up when inserting phrases due to some phrases already existing (from the first insall of the hack). So in the admincp/vbarticles settings.. some of the phrases don't show up on the second install.

I didn't see that big of a problem with that, cause I can easily look at the first install and see what the phrases are. Plus, no one has access to it but me, so I was fine with it.

I always have a hard time explaining these things so they make sense, so I hope it did?

Anyways, you could pull it off by doing a "find and replace" but you must keep certain things intact somewhat. For example, if you're going to name one of them "Reviews" you'll have to find every instance of "article" and replace it with "review", then every instance of "Article" and replace with "Review". Same with "ARTICLE" to "REVIEW" and finally "art" with "rev".

Doing it that way installed fine for me, after that there are a few template edits you'll need to do in order to get uploading to function right, but other than that I have had no problems.

Oh yeah, you'll have to re-edit the "powered by" so it links up correctly.. otherwise it ends up showing a red X, and you look like a jerk for removing it. hah

EDIT:
Just keep in mind that if you do this, you MUST backup your database first because you can break it very easily by doing something like this. There's your warning, so I can't be held liable. ;)

I also recommend trying it out on a test vBulletin first.

You will need to modify the FCKeditor too (config).

Ah, true.
I didn't do it because I don't use it..

this seems like a lot of hassle. are there any other ways of doing this? lol

No. In order to run two instances you need to do what was stated above. It's not a lot of hassle if you have a program that will "Find and replace" for you.
