Smilies no longer parsing after server move

I have just moved the forum onto a new dedicated server and finally have everything working except smilie inserts on posts.

Paths to the images are correct and they show in the selection menu but they will not parse in the posts..

Any ideas what I might try?

Are the permissions on the directories set correct?
