vb.org Archive - tracking usage?

I'm thinking about changing my site to where you have to registar to be able to view the site.

But....I"m concerned about loseing the lurkers I have now. Since that is a possible word of mouth advertising or future member.

What I'd like to do is track visitors somehow. I have a hit counter on the bottom of the screen since I started the site. And I have a hack for members visiting today. But is there any way to log ip addresses of visitors? I"m curious how many people are just lurking and not registared or logged in.
