Announcement hack

Could I get a hack so that I can put in my welcome panel $newannouncement or something so that it will she when a staff member posts a new thread in the announcement forum? So like, it would say "[username] has posted an important announcement. View it. "[threadname]".

I would REALLY apprieciate that hack!
