Image Hosting
Image hosting v1.0
This is my first relase of this script, if people can test it and let me know any bugs please. Features
|
would be great to have a screenshot or a description of your personal use of the script... because for now... vague!
(there is no such tool in the db right now, so it's a good thing to have this, but!) |
i use this system so users can upload an image to my server and can hot link, The user can then post his image on other boards or just my board. I will get some screenshots for you
a Live demo at www.sig-mania.co.uk/forums/index.php the link is on the navbar, you will need to sign up first to use it |
Is this secure? IE what's the chances of someone manipulating it to upload php files?
|
cool idea! add this to the "add watermark" hack and it could be a great way to advertise your site! :D
|
Great idea! The only suggestion I would have would be to limit users to max total upload size instead of number of uploads.
|
I'd like this merged as awards, or with the Ushop hack. Would be nice.

:: big thumbs up :: I cant wait to get home and install

Good job coding, but couldn't this bring a hosting account down quickly?
I think if someone hosted an 800KB file and then linked to it on a busy forum in their signature, your bandwitch would be gone in no time. 10GB/800KB=12500 Downloads or displays to use 10GB of bandwidth. 12500/50=250 Downloads or displays each for 50 users to use up 10GB bandwidth. This is the extreme, but as you can see it adds up fast. This will make the hosts that offer unlimited BW for $8.00 cringe I bet! On the other hand, limiting pics to 64K... 10GB/64KB=156250 Downloads or displays to use 10GB of bandwidth. That is alot more views per 10GB, but certainly possible to use up. Ok, I'll put the calculator away now. Have you seen the usage go up on your site with remote hits to the database to retrive the images? I'm wondering if this would be a great front end for uploading to a folder via php and just using a url for the link eliminating the DB calls for the vB backend and image retrival. You'd have all the security for uploading and managing images and none of the DB overhead on displays or storage. Just some thoughts to consider. Cheers! |
Another reason to limit upload file size instead of number of uploads. I think that the increase in bandwidth should be expected with this sort of hack, as with any other image hosting or gallery script would. Although it would be great if some sort of bandwidth limit or vB's built-in server load limit could be integrated with this hack.
Also, what dependable host offers true unlimited bandwidth for $8? |
