Thats the shte point of the hack to keep people from needlessly bumping threads :)

sabret00the 01-24-2005 04:55 PM

i thought it was to stop double posts considering that's what the hacks called ;)

Xenon 01-24-2005 05:09 PM

it's designed to prevent doubleposts, but on vb.org it's used to prevent bumpings in less then 24h, as way to much users have ignored that rule in the past..

sabret00the 01-24-2005 05:13 PM

couldn't it be done on a per-forum basis, i mean it's one thing bumping in the requests forum but it's a whole other in the php forum where you've just helped out in a few threads and so your thread has fallen down.

maybe you cuold do it in a way where it adds a minute to the posttime that way it keeps it a new topic without bumping it up on the threadlist

/me was just spouting ideas.

Xenon 01-24-2005 07:56 PM

it is already on a per forum base ^^

it doesn't merge on release forums, but as php forums are mostly requests as well, i won't change that setting.

sabret00the 01-25-2005 10:33 AM

can it be changed to to 12 hours for the coding forum, it's not like i'm about to say to someone can you make me a hack, i'm merely either asking why don't this work or can someone explain this to me, it's killing me i can't bump a topic just to get a little help changes are i've got one line in the code wrong and due to that i have to wait 24 hours to progress in my script, back before the double posting was installed i used to delete the proceeding bump in order to bump it up, theirs a huge difference from saying can you do this for me, and can you help me/show me/teach me how to do this so i don't have to ask you again next time :(

Sooner95 01-25-2005 02:16 PM

its a good idea guys, but 24hrs seems a little long...

has there been that big a problem with bumping of threads?

Xenon 01-25-2005 04:24 PM

@Sooner: yep, it gots really annoying...

@sabre: sorry, it would become to cluttered and confusing if there is a different rule for each forum.
On vb.org we have the 24h for next bump rule, and it will stay so.

Sooner95 01-25-2005 04:26 PM

ok, suppose if it got bad, something would have to be done. No prob.. we will adjust..

thx
